sad state of affairs
Oct. 20th, 2003 11:09 pmI usually take the A, C, or E train from 6th Ave at W. 3rd St. to Port Authority every evening. Tonight, when I got the station, the A and E trains were just sitting there with all the lights turned out, and subway personnel saying that the trains were not running due to a power outage. I took the F to 42nd instead, then walked the few blocks to Port Authority, thinking nothing of this.
When I got home, I found out what had really happened. A 14-year-old boy had been playing on the train, climbing on top of it. He'd fallen to his death just south of the 14th St. station.
WHY do kids do things like this? This boy was an only child. He was his mother's only chilc, and now she has to cope with his completely tragic and senseless death. I am so sad tonight, and my prayers are with the family of this foolish boy, who thought he was invinsible, and learned too late that he wasn't.
