Half-Blood Prince, 4
Jul. 15th, 2005 04:06 pmMy copy of HBP is on its way! On a tip from
ravenclawdrew, I checked Amazon and tracked my package. It's sitting around in Maspeth, NY, which I think is nearby but I have no idea how close/far it really is. Anyway, YAY!
My time is running out to make pre-HBP observations, predictions, or comments of any kind. With that in mind, I am posting a little list, random as can be, with thoughts on HBP Eve.
*Shipping: Don't care, just set it up well. The series has been leading to R/Hr and H/G since the beginning, IMO, so if that happens, great. If not, great.
*Death(s): Care very much. I'll be burning my book if it's Ron. My other guess is Hagrid. I also think there are entirely too many Weasleys for them all to survive the Voldie War unscathed (as does Molly Weasley, as indicated by her boggart), so look for at least one twin biting it, and possibly Percy. Although with Percy, I wouldn't care too much, unless it is revealed he was indeed under Imperious throughout OotP, in which case I may feel a moment of sadness before moving on.
*Neville's new wand = new wizarding power!
*I'd love to see a little more of Draco and Pansy. I felt that in OotP, JKR mentioned Pansy quite a bit more than in previous books, which I hope means the Slytherins will be getting a little more attention from Harry. We are definitely limited by Harry's pov when it comes to Slytherin characterization, which I understand and expect, but did no one listen to the Sorting Hat's new song? And there must be more Slytherins than the ones we hear about most often, so maybe one or a few of those will come out of the woodwork too. Again, we'll be in a war situation in the wizarding world, which is no time at all to be a prat. However, with the CoS bloodline parallels, I can also see blood being more divisive than ever now. It could go either way.
*I think Tonks should be the new DADA professor. She's kick ass.
*Kingsley. Mmmmmm. Back off,
light_music, you have babies to tend to! No sneaking around with hot bald wizards!
*Ginny: I like her. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her, and now that she has a personality, there's no stopping her. I feel like she's kind of fascinating in a way, because you don't really know what she's been up to. It took me 3 reads of OotP to feel this way about her, but there you have it.
*Love Dumbledore's Army. I am really looking forward to the continuation of this, and Harry's being the leader. It was one of my favorite things about OotP; I was really proud of Harry, and he seemed to be in his element.
*Grawp. Oh, dear Lord, please don't put us through too much of that. I am interested to see how the giants will behave in Voldie War 2, but I can't take much of Grawp; I totally skipped that chapter in my reread. I'd also like to see something happen with the goblins. We know they are smart, we know they have a spotty past with wizards, and we know that Prof. Binns drones on during History of Magic lectures. But even Harry, through his sleepy haze in HoM classes, recognizes that the subject would be interesting if handled by a more engaging instructor. And we can count on Hermione having full intimate knowledge of goblin-wizard relations, so that'll be cool.
*SPEW. I would love for someone, once and for all, to explain to Hermione a better way to reach the house-elves than sneakily giving them clothes. There needs to be some kind of introduction to non-servitude or something. Come on Hermione, you're smarter than that!
*LUNA! YAY!
*Speaking of Luna, and speaking of death, above, I'd like the VEIL addressed, please. Sirius, I have finally accepted, is dead. Took me 3 reads of OotP to understand that JKR wanted to use this to teach Harry about the fragility of life...not that, IMO, he doesn't KNOW how fragile life is already, but this time it hit him closer to home than it has since his parents. However, I would still like to have the veil explained, or maybe Harry can go back there and see for himself.
*I guess it's a spoiler if you consider cover art a spoiler, but I wonder where Harry and Dumbledore ARE in the deluxe cover picture, and who the skulking dude is. Before I saw the serpent on the door, I thought it might be Godric's Hollow, and we were returning to where It All Began. That would be kick-ass, come to think of it.
