Jessica and Meredith had told me that NYU is a bitch for post-graduate education. I should have known! I thought it was only in the School of Education, because that's where they studied for their Masters, and they had (and are still having, after graduation) a bunch of issues. But no, the ineptitude of certain people who happen to be NYU employees knows no bounds. Doesn't discriminate one bit.

Today I went to register for my Publishing class. The non-credit one that NYU will pay 80% of. There was already a long list of approvals I needed to get, but they decided they needed to take the cake today by signing me up for the right class, but for the summer term. What??! Yes, that's right.

A summary, first, of what I did before getting to my office and finding out that I was registered for the May 18 - July 20 session.

*picked up my tuition remission form from Central HR
*walked it over to the SCPS registrar
*filling out a registration form
*waited while the registrar lady did some database entry [presumably to add me to the summer term]
*waited while the registrar lady printed out my schedule
*waited while the registrar lady had another registrar lady sign off on my tuition remission form [that's 3 signatures on that form, not including mine, for those playing along at home]
*took my newly printed schedule, checked that the course number was correct [it was], and walked over to the bursar [20 paces behind where I was standing]
*paid my 20% of the tuition by check

So, yeah, maybe I am the idiot for not noticing right away that the dates of the class were wrong, but the course title and number were the same, and I would think the computer would catch something like that and flag it! I mean, the summer term ended 2 weeks ago! Anyway, I got back to my desk, ate the turkey sandwich I had bought on the way back to work, and then took out the paper they'd given me. That's when I finally noticed the dates were wrong, etc. After speaking to the lamest woman ever on the phone, I was assured this would be fixed. My only fear was that they'd call me back to tell me the course I wanted was closed, at which point I might have had to open a can of whoop-ass such as SCPS has never seen before!

I get a call back a few minutes later from the bursar informing me that the Fall term class is more expensive, so I have to stop by the bursar [mind you, it's 10 blocks and 2 avenues over] to pay them a whopping $3 and then they'll give me the new schedule with the correct term on it. UGH!

Anyway, I am off to call Torchtone [phone registrar type thing] to make certain they've dropped me from summer and added me to fall. I tell you. *shakes head*
